Director of Bands – Jeremy Stanley

Jeremy Stanley is currently serving in his fifth year as the Director of Bands at Upson-Lee High School, first arriving in Fall of 2007.  Since his arrival at Upson-Lee, the band program has continued to grow both in musicianship and numbers.  Under his tenure the band has consistently recevied superior ratings and numerous first, second, and third place awards at various performances and competitions.  Under his leadership, Upson-Lee students consistently participate in honor bands at both the University of Georgia as well as the District 11 honor band.  In addition, under his tenure, Mr. Stanley has created and fostered the development of the Upson-Lee winter guard program that performs in the Southern Association for Performing Arts.

Prior to his arrival at Upson-Lee, Mr. Stanley served as the Assistant Director of Bands at Daleville High School in Daleville, Alabama for three years.  While serving in this capacity, Mr. Stanley’s ensembles consistently received all superior ratings, as well as a large number of best-in-class awards in marching, symphonic, and jazz performances.  His bands consistently had members performing in various honor band programs throughout the Southeast at universities including : Troy, FSU, Southern Miss, Auburn, and UAB.  In addition, his ensembles consistently placed more students in district honor band and all-state than any other program in the district and state.  While there, Mr. Stanley took bands to compete in national competitions in Gatlinburg, Tennessee; New York City; and Orlando, Florida. 

Mr. Stanley holds his bachelor’s degree in instrumental music education from Troy University where he was a member of the highly acclaimed “Sound of the South” marching band as well as various other collegiate ensembles and graduated in 2004.  While there, he had the fortunate opportunity to study with such names as Robert W. Smith, Ralph Ford, and James Zingara.

Mr. Stanley is a native of Opp, Alabama and currently resides in Senoia, Georgia.

Auxilary Coordinator – Sherre Rohling

Sherre Rohling has served as the Auxilary Coordinator for the Marching Knights since 2003, as well as the ULHS Winter Guard since its inaugural season in 2008. She attended Lithia Springs High School in Douglas County, Georgia where she marched with the LSHS Colorguard for 3 years and Winter Guard for 2 years. Mrs. Rohling studied history at Kennesaw State University.

In 2005, Mrs. Rohling was responsible for overseeing the transition of the more traditional Danceline, Majorette and Colorguard units into the current Guard. During Mrs. Rohling’s tenure, the Guard has consistently earned superior ratings at numerous competitions across the state.

Mrs. Rohling has worked at Upson-Lee North Elementary School for 16 years. Currently she works as an Instructional Materials Specialist, Bookkeeper, and Purchasing Agent. She is a member of the Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta where she served as Upson County Service Unit Director, Association Chair, Delegate and Troop Leader for a number of years. Mrs. Rohling is a member of the St. Peter the Rock Catholic Church where she currently serves as the President of the local Council of Catholic Women and as the Director of Religious Education.

Mrs. Rohling and her husband, Keith Rohling, have three children – Kattie, Michael, and Patrick and a daughter-in-law, Sandra.  In her limited spare time she enjoys reading, Colonial American history, traveling, movies, TV, politics, Georgia Tech Football, and her Jack Russell “JJ”!

 

Percussion Instructor – Johnathan Ancell

Johnathan Ancell came on staff as the percussion instructor of the “Marching Knights” in the summer of 2009.  He previously served as percussion instructor with Jackson High School and has worked with numerous other programs in the area such as Jackson High, Locust Grove High, Dutchtown High,  Henderson Middle, Dutchtown Middle, Lamar Middle, Liberty Middle.

He has played percussion since his sixth grade year of middle school.  He graduated from Henry County High School where he was part of the battery percussion section for three years. His Senior year he served as the “Band of Gold’s” Drum Major where he helped lead the band to many superior rating and several first in class awards.

He is currently studying to get his Music Education Degree with an emphasis in Percussion at Clayton State University.  In addition, he also plays the drums for the worship band at his church and sings in the church choir.
